Congratulations EDDA WINNERS

Congratulations to all the winners of the Edda, Iceland’s Academy Awards. We’re very proud to have been part of quite a few projects that received awards, including our very own Pétur Karlsson, who received the Best Visual Effects award in tandem with RVX’s Daði Einarsson for their work on Baltasar Kormákurs “The Oath".

The Best Documentary award went to “Inside a Volcano”, a story following the Icelandic men’s national football team on the road to the European Finals. Directed by Sævar Guðmundsson, it was edited by Sævar and Trickshot’s Úlfur Traustason as well as grading and VFX were done by Bjarki Guðjónsson and Luis Ascanio.

The Best Fictional Television Series award went to “Ligeglad”. The show follows an Icelandic stand-up comedian, Anna Svava, on the road in Denmark. Directed by Arnór Pálmi Arnarson and produced by Filmus, the show was edited by Trickshot’s Úlfur Traustason and graded by Luis Ascanio. VFX and motion graphics by Kristján U. Kristjánsson.

Last, but certainly not least, “Cubs” was awarded the Edda for Best Short Film. Directed by Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir, produced by Askja Films and Zik Zak. The dramatic short stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (True Detective, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, BFG, The Missing) as a single father trying to help his young daughter throw a slumber party. Color graded by Trickshot’s Luis Ascanio and VFX by Pétur Karlsson and Bjarki Guðjónsson. Sound design by Nick Cathcart-Jones.

Edda Nomination

Trickshot is extremely proud of our very own Pétur Karlsson's Edda nomination for his VFX work on the film "The Oath". Pétur's experience helped the extremely fast turnaround of the project and provided director Baltasar Kormákur with an array of enhancements to his nordic psychological thriller.

The Edda, Iceland's Academy Awards, will be held on February 26th. The current nomination is Trickshot's second in the VFX category, having won the award in 2015.

Pétur's breakdown for the VFX can be seen here.

Cubs win "Best Icelandic Short Film" at RIFF

Congratulations Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir & Eva Sigurðardóttir.

The jury's words about the film: “Exhibiting all the new challenges of being a single dad in our modern day society, Cubs manages to keep us in suspense from the first minute, as it explores taboos in father/daughter relationships. Per played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is planning a sleepover at his home for his daughter and although he is a great dad, we somehow expect him to fail at each decision. A well crafted film in all aspects with great performances, Cubs creates a perspective that is simultanously shocking and thought provoking.”

CUBS is written and directed by Nanna Kristín Magnúsardóttir and produced by Askja Films and Zik Zak Filmworks.

Island songs Premieres at rough trade

Over a period of 7 weeks, Ólafur Arnalds traveled to 7 different locations in Iceland – one per week – to record a series of new compositions.

In each location he collaborated with local artists to create and perform a new song and each week he released the audio track and video performance. Shot by director Baldvin Z. each artist has their own unique story to tell, making this a diverse and evolving project.

Island Songs is a living musical film and therefore everything is documented in real-time.
